Marvel at local, regional and internationally acclaimed artwork across Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate
The internationally-acclaimed Turner Contemporary leads the creative charge, with cool individual galleries and studios emerging across Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
Discover a growing number of independent galleries and studios among the cobbled streets of Margate's Old Town, like the Pie Factory and Eclectic Art Gallery. Explore more across Cliftonville, like Joseph Wales Gallery. Visit studios and workshops showcasing local and national artists' work, with the opportunity to pick up a bargain or a masterpiece! Margate's very own Tracey Emin has opened and artist residency project TKE Studios.
Dotted around the harbour and side streets of Broadstairs are independent galleries like New Kent Art Gallery and Broadstairs Gallery, offering limited prints, panoramic photographs and exhibitions of local work.
Ramsgate also has its own growing art scene with galleries like Turner Rowe Art Centre & Gallery, McGillan & Woodell, and the York St. Gallery, which exhibits work by local artists. Vincent Van Gogh lived here on the West Cliff, and taught in a local school, a connection now celebrated by sculptor Anthony Padgett, whose bust of the artist can be seen in Spencer Square. The West Cliff's Addington St. is also home to both the Laurent Delaye and Aitch galleries.
Every two years August sees Thanet Open Studios take place whilst in October East Kent Artists' Open Houses sees artists and artisans opening their studios, galleries and homes to showcase their work to locals and visitors alike.
