Discover Ramsgate’s Wartime Legacy
Ramsgate Harbour became a lifeline during Operation Dynamo, where countless brave civilian mariners launched their vessels to rescue British, French and Belgian troops from Dunkirk’s beaches. It was anticipated that 20-30,000 troops would be rescued, though the actual figure was more than 338,000. As we mark this milestone anniversary, Ramsgate invites you to honor these unsung heroes and explore the stories of courage and resilience that shaped our community.
