It feels timely to explore the role of intuition in art-making as AI becomes increasingly prevalent. Will it be possible to replicate intuition artificially? The ideas and solutions artists arrive at can seem miraculous and magical, often only presenting themselves after struggle and uncertainty. Or are they simply what is left when you sieve the soup of all our thoughts, information, responses and conversations? Could this apparently mystical process be replicated by voracious data-crunching machines?
The stories in these artists' paintings might be suggested, overt, mysterious and open-ended. The ways in which they arrive at their works are the result of drwaing, intuition, pareidolia, a response to real life events, memories, emotions or associations. For Gerhard Richter, a good picture.
