The Thanet coastline includes the seaside resorts of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, with 16 beautiful sandy beaches and bays stretching from Pegwell Bay in the south to Minnis Bay in the north, all simply impossible to resist. Scroll to discover our beaches
Long famous for their beauty, this year our beaches and bays have notched up four Blue Flag awards and twelve Seaside Awards. Their variety astounds too - surfer hangouts neighbour chalk-backed expanses. Here you can surf, swim or sail. Gaze into rock pools, build a sandcastle, take a boat trip, cycle shorelines, munch on chips, go barefoot beachcombing or simply chill out.
The idea of walking from one bay to another may be appealing, but ensure you don’t get cut off by the tide. High and low tide information is often written at each beach by the Bay Inspector. Local tide timetables are available from our Visitor Information Centre or visit Ramsgate Harbour website.
Our Coastal Explorer Packs are great for families and individuals of all ages and provide tools and information to help you explore Thanet’s beaches, the rich natural environment and historical heritage. A trail map highlights activities such as ‘art on the beach’, ‘seaweed and shell search’, ‘play hopscotch’ and learn about the weather and clouds. Check out this guide to Rock Pooling from the Thanet Coast Project to help identify your findings
To enjoy your experience at our beaches and bays, please check the Beach and Coast Code of Conduct and dog beach bans. Learn about the Council's seaweed collection
