1) Vikings and Wildlife

Did you know the Isle of Thanet is home to a Viking Ship? Located close to Pegwell Bay the replica ship ‘Hugin’ commemorates the 1500 years since the landing of Hengist and Horsa in Britain. 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the replica.

A walk around Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve showcases a patchwork of wildlife habitats and geology - saltmarsh, shingle beach and chalk cliffs. Don’t forget your binoculars to spot waders and wildfowl

Grab your walking boots for a fascinating leisurely stroll to a longer walk exploring hidden gems. Discover stunning architecture, charming rural villages, fascinating history or travel in the footsteps of some famous faces. Join a guided tour to delve further into the history of the isle.

4) Off the Beaten Track 

With stunning, 80-million-year-old cliffs and 16 spectacular, sandy beaches and bays,many with Blue Flag or Seaside Awards, our coastline is truly precious. From tranquil relaxing beaches watching the waves lapping in to the 9 unspoilt villages waiting to be explored. Sit with a book or stretch out on a yoga mat.

It's not just the golden sandy beaches that make up the Isle of Thanet. Head off the coastal path to explore the green spaces filling your head with the sound of bird song, make architectural discoveries or sit back and take in the surroundings.
