Discussing Pity by Andrew McMillan at Fort Road Hotel Bar
6.30pm
A short but mighty story of masculinity and queerness, desolation and pride that arches over three generations of men in a South Yorkshire mining family, acclaimed poet (and now author) McMillan's first novel Pity memorialises a way of British life that is now largely lost.
Middle-aged brothers Alex and Brian have lived their whole lives in the once-industrious and now-forgotten pit town; the town their father lived in and his father before him, while Alex's only child Simon, a part-time drag artist, has no memory of the mines but carries their legacy nonetheless.
The Bookclub is open to all and there’s no requirement to read every book and turn up to every meeting, come whenever you fancy!
The wonderful Fort Road Hotel hosting the meet-ups in their basement bar with a delicious selection of drinks and snacks.
