Come along to the Ramsgate Tunnels for a free, fun-filled day of local discovery!
10am - 4:30pm
Back by popular demand, the Ramsgate Tunnels invite you to celebrate the Historical Association’s Local and Community History Month with a Local History Day.
This free, one-day event promises a fascinating journey through time. Heritage organisations from across Thanet and East Kent will be on hand, engaging visitors with
captivating displays and exhibits, spanning everything from rampaging Romans to daring explorers.
Delve into the Ramsgate Archive, a treasure trove of papers, artefacts, and memorabilia that showcases the town’s rich history. Whether you’re an amateur historian, a student, or simply curious about the past, our friendly volunteers will be available to offer expert advice and inspire your own local history projects.
The Tunnels' popular Deep Tunnel Shelter tours will be available as normal throughout the day. These immersive tours bring Ramsgate’s wartime story to life, recounting how the town’s visionary mayor and borough surveyor supported the creation of the largest purpose-built civilian shelter in the UK. It’s a chance to step back in time and experience the resilience of the community during the Second World War.
The Tunnels’ café will be open all day, serving a tempting selection of refreshments, light snacks, and indulgent cakes. Take a break, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy a bite to eat.
With so much to see and do, Local History Day is an unmissable event for history enthusiasts, families, and anyone seeking a unique day out. To book your place on a tour or learn more about the organisations attending, visit the Tunnels’ website: www.ramsgatetunnels.org.
Mark your calendar and join in on 10 May for a day of discovery, inspiration, and fun!
