Visit the Powell-Cotton Museum to see their renewed displays of cultural artefacts from Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan
11am - 4pm
After years of hard work, research, engagement and community-led curation the museum are excited to unveil the newly interpreted Eastern African collections as they’ve never been seen before.
Visit Gallery 2 to learn about cultural heritage materials from South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya, including jewellery, clothing and musical instruments. Exploring themes such as adornment and ceremony, the new display provides an insight into the lives and traditions of people and communities from which items came.
The museum are delighted to welcome Falle Nioke, singer and percussionist from Guinea, now based in Margate, UK, to perform across the weekend. He sings in English, French, Susu, Fulani, Malinke and his mother tongue, Coniagui. He plays a range of cultural African instruments to accompany his voice (Gongoma, Bolon, Cassi). Falle is excited to introduce visitors to the wonderful sounds of Africa and is hopeful that the audience will join him in creating some beautiful music in the spirit of the exhibition.
