An exhibition of photographs by Tony Nandi (1950-2020) ARPS at Lovelys Gallery in Cliftonville, Margate
9am - 5pm
This exhibition of limited edition photographs by Tony Nandi, ARPS (1950 – 2020) features images exploring Tony’s extraordinary ability to capture the essence of dance movement under performance lighting. Curated by his wife Julie, this selection of images from Tony’s digital and analogue archive, explores the use of contra jure, or ‘against the light’.
Tony was one of the country’s foremost photographers of the performance arts for almost forty years – with a special interest in dance. He was intrigued by the challenge of conveying a dynamic time-based, three dimensional, emotionally charged creative production into a two-dimensional image. His ultimate intention was always, through timing and composition, to invite and engage the viewer to sense the physical, spatial and emotional experience of the performance.
There will be a meet the curator session on Saturday, 3 August 2024 where Julie will be available at Lovelys’ gallery, to discuss Tony’s work and speak about his photography with the exhibition audience.
