The People Care Planet Care Community Sauna is a unique and beloved gathering place in Margate. This volunteer-run sauna is free to use, although donations of wood and fresh water are always appreciated. Inspired by the communal spirit of Reykjavik's saunas, it aims to bring people together and celebrate the coastline in every season.
Originally housed in a historic sea bathing machine, the sauna has found a permanent home at Walpole Bay since 2020. It offers a chance to warm up before (or after) taking a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the tidal pool. The sauna's design pays homage to Margate's rich history of sea bathing, making it a truly special experience for locals and visitors alike.
