Margate Design Collective is the working upholstery workshop of Jo and Jess, who re-upholster antique and modern furniture for commercial and domestic projects, as well as creating bespoke furniture.
Whether you have a beloved family heirloom that needs restoring, a vision for a great eBay find, or a bespoke creation for a commercial project, the skilled team offer a full range of modern and traditional upholstery services. They’re even on hand to support you with the ideal design and fabric options for your chosen piece. With a passion for design, furniture and interiors, Jess and Jo have joined forces to create a hub of learning, where fellow professionals can come together, share experiences and learn collaboratively in the form of exciting courses.
Jo and Jess share their skills with students in their Upholstery Leisure Courses, which feature short weekends and longer weekly classes where students can bring their own pieces of furniture . During other weekends, guest teachers come into the bright and colourful workshop to run other creative courses, from tufting to quilting.
With connections to the interiors, commercial, set-design and film industry, they aim to give you the best insights, knowledge and know-how into the wonderful craft of upholstery, design and interiors. Whether you’re a pure beginner or more advanced, the ethos is shared learning - a desire to create a warm, informal and inviting space where everyone can create, learn and build.
