Previously called ‘Clover Hill’, it was eventually renamed Abbot’s Hill after the man who farmed the land around Albion Place, William Abbot.
In 2014 Ramsgate Town Council commissioned local artist, Emily Tull to paint ‘Ramsgate inspired’ designs on the panels up Abbot’s Hill steps. Other artists including Gill Cleaver, Janie Grout, Emma Lynch, Jacqui Wanstall and Anthony Thorpe have since been commissioned and have added their designs to the opposite panels, brightening up this passage to the East Cliff.
The 7 right panels (as you look up the steps) are to be refreshed by East Kent College students in September 2023 with Historic England funding. The designs will be inspired by AWN Pugin.
